Free parkway trees

After EAB and storm losses, Channahon now offers approved parkway trees to residents at no cost, up to two per property, first come, first served until the year's funding runs out. Trees are bought and planted by a contracted nursery in fall (Village of Channahon). The Village says it will keep removing parkway trees that are a safety or health hazard at any time of year (same page).

Why so many ash came out

A 2012 survey counted 7,709 public street trees in Channahon, 2,195 of them ash, about 28.5% (Village tree replacement document).

Utilities and digging

Grinding a stump is digging, so call 811 (J.U.L.I.E.) first. For limbs on the house wire, ComEd drops the line for free with 5 days' notice: 1-800-334-7661 (ComEd).

Storm debris

After a storm, wood from your own trees is yours to clear, not ComEd's (ComEd notice via Tinley Park).
